The user journey maps illustrate the adoption experience from the perspective of three unique personas—Katy, Jacob, and Karen—each with different lifestyles, needs, and goals. By mapping their stages from initial awareness to post-adoption support, we identify pain points, emotions, and opportunities for improvement. These insights guide our design decisions, ensuring the animal rescue website and mobile app deliver a clear, supportive, and personalized adoption process for every type of adopter.
Katy – First-Time Cat Adopter
Katy is a young professional moving into her first apartment. She knows she wants a cat and uses the rescue’s website to research adoptable cats, learn about the process, and find one that fits her lifestyle. Her journey highlights the need for clear guidance, behavior information, and support before and after adoption.
Karen – First-Time Pet Owner Seeking Companionship
Karen is a widow living alone who wants a pet for companionship but is unsure what kind to get. She explores different species and learns about the responsibilities of pet ownership. Her journey underscores the value of educational content, lifestyle-based pet matching, and confidence-building post-adoption support
Jacob – Busy Parent Adding a Second Dog
Jacob is a father of two with a high-energy lab. He wants a second dog that will be compatible with his family and current pet. Using the mobile version of the site, he needs quick, targeted search filters and efficient application steps. His journey emphasizes the importance of mobile-friendly design, compatibility tools, and multi-dog resources.
Users needed a clear, compassionate interface to browse pets, learn about their needs, and start the adoption process.

I took the initiative to create an interactive pet quiz to help users figure out what kind of pet fits their lifestyle.
Apart from the website I created, I did an app version as well as the quiz to accompany it.
